Accidental Valentine 01 & 02

As promised - here are the first 2 parts of my kit that I have chosen to call "Accidental Valentine" as it was not intended to be so...

As I mentioned yesterday it is not one of my most spectacular kits - actually it is suspiciously similar to last year's Valentine kit in both colours and content - but I think it is useful and generic despite the name. I hope you feel the same way about it by the end of the week when you have downloaded the full kit.

Today you get two paper packs - one with the plain coloured papers and chipboard papers and one with floral styles. 42 papers in all.

Just a Heads Up!

I just wanted to let you know that I am still here and will be back very, very soon with lots of goodies for you.

I had decided not to make any Valentines stuff this year but then I stumbled upon this colour pallet from a Colour Challenge by WCC (Wishkeepers Creativity Collective) and I simply fell in love with both the picture and the colours.

I have now spend the last few days playing around with the colours and the final results ended up looking very much like a Valentine Kit....

The kit is not extremely interesting but it's big - and it's free....

I will start posting it tomorrow and keep bits coming through next week, so please stay tuned so you don't miss any of it.

1. Clean out doubles - Competition

If you were following this blog last Christmas you may remember that December is my time for cleaning out my archive. Such a clean out usually results in finding a lot of doubles = material I have purchased twiced. And I want to make it a Christmas tradition to give them away to you. Last year's Christmas Card Competition was not the biggest success, so this year I have decided to do something that requires less work for you.

As you will find out later in this post inspiration can come from unexpected places and I sometimes need inspiration to make your freebies. Therefore, this year's competition will be as follows:

Email me something that means a lot to you - it can be a song title or lyrics, a poem, a picture or painting or simply a single word - anything you find inspirational. You don't have to email me full lyrics or the picture in itself just make sure I have enough information to find it on line.

The deadline is New Years Eve and when the calendar shows 2012 I will have an impartial person pick the winners at random. There will be 3 equally big prizes for the lucky winners. When you email me put "Inspiration" in the subject field and make sure to include your name and email information and also let me know if you use PhotoShop as some of the doubles up for grabs are PS Tools.

2. Today's Freebie - For Carrie and her Mother.

The freebie I offer today is a special freebie. It is of course for all of you but it was inspired by a comment I got the other day from Carrie from Delaware and is therefore made especially for and dedicated to her and her mother from Aalborg in northern Jutland, Denmark. The freebie contains a lot of stuff associated with a good, old fashioned, Danish Christmas. I have also included a text that means a lot to all Danes around Christmas. It is an extraction from the Book "Peter's Christmas" written in 1870 and still known to all children in Denmark. I have used the fantastic illustration from the book to make a few elements for the kit. Finally, I have helped all you non-Danish speaking friends around the world by including a small word list giving you a few of the Danish Christmas words in English.

The story of the one left behind

This is the story of a Cute Little Alpha who played happily with all its friends on a designer's computer - not a care in the world... Until one day when an announcement was made that files were needed for a brand new Christmas Pack to go in the Danish Design Store!!!! All the files hurried to get in line and the Cute Little Alpha did all it could but was pushed and shoved until it finally found itself as the absolute end of the very long line.

The Cute Little Alpha crossed its fingers and hoped for the best, but luck was not its friend that day. When it was finally time for the Cute Little Alpha to apply for a place in the Christmas Pack a sign was put up saying "All seats taken - no more applicants needed"..... The Cute Little Alpha cried and cried and could not understand why it could not get into the Christmas Pack. "I'm cute and can be very Christmassy but I can also be used in all the other months of the year...". There were no friends left to play with so the Cute Little Alpha just sat in a corner of the Alpha Folder sighing and crying.

Then one day the Cute Little Alpha heard something and looked up. It was the designer who felt so sorry for the Cute Little Alpha and had decided to pick it for a very important job. "You are going to be a Freebie on my blog" the designer said "and that is a very important job because you will get to live in a lot of loving people's computers and be used and used and used, and make people happy all the time!".

Well, it's closing in on midnight here in Copenhagen and I find it appropriate to wish you all

Halloween has not yet grasped Denmark as much as I would have liked. The day is mostly a chance for the kids to get free candy simply by knocking on doors - they don't even make the effort of dressing up spooky... My day did, however, have one extremely spooky element. Late afternoon, as dusk began to take over, a flock of about 30 crows decided to take over the air space just above or house... Both sound and sight gave me the chills, and they stayed for about half an hour!!!

There is one good thing about being an adult on a night like this: If I want to go Trick-or-Treating I don't have to dress up and go outside. I can simply wear my comfy PJ, go to the kitchen and scream at the candy basket - and I get anything I want :o)

I don't have an actual freebie for you today but I do have something free so it count, doesn't it? I have made this as a "piece of art" for my own use but found out that it would make a great gift for you for tonight. I don't know what you can use it for, but if you figure it out feel free to use it as you wish (but please give me some kind of credit for it).

About a month ago I received an email that were both scary and sweet:

my mom is justie. I hope i have right emails. Iam sure you know a lady is harassing her and I know its cause that idiot isjealous cause I saw her work and it sucks and I watch my mom draw and shesgreat. she can make lots of great stuff. but she got so stressed and now sheended up having a heart attack. she will have surgery tomorrow but dr said 6weeks of no work no stress no nothing. my dad said to turn all stores and blogand eveything down for that time so she wont want to work or fix or whatever.she said to email her friends and people to let them know what happen to her sothey wont worry or something. she will be home from surgery by next monday ifits all ok.

Justie is the talent behind the designer Just Creations and the blog with the same name and I have for a while considered her a friend. Therefore, I felt so bad about this email and crossed my fingers for more than a week hoping she would be OK. I don't know if my fingers had anything to do with it but she did do OK. Yeahh!

Unfortunately, the same can not be said for her blog. I will not go into details just say that the patient died and Justie is now not only unable to work for a while but also without a place to post...

That is why I was so pleased - and deeply honored - when she wrote to me a couple of weeks ago to ask if I would like her Halloween designs for my blog so they wouldn't go to waste. Of course I did, but I insisted to post them as her designs and not my own. And that is the reason that today's freebies look a little different from my usual freebies.

Where have I been....? - and freebies

Hi again everyone,

You may have wondered why this blog has been silent for a while - or you may not have noticed at all. But the reason for my absence this time has been all good. I took a well earned Fall Holiday to my personal Paradise on earth - the island of Bornholm. I didn't tell you beforehand because I didn't want to announce to all burglars that my flat was empty for a week :o)

It has been a wonderful week of peace and quiet, sunny fall days and absolute relaxation. I can recommend it to all of you who spend a lot of time with your computer - long walks, fresh air and of course plenty of good food. Another thing I would like to recommend is something I never thought I should say, but here goes...

Bornholm is a treasure for photographers and usually when I go there I return with hundreds of photos. But this time my beloved camera decided to take its own holiday on day two of the vacation, a spring broke and I could not take one single picture!!!! If you love your camera you know what I went through - all seven stages of grief in a few hours. But when I came out on the other side I realized that it was not such a bad thing after all. I suddenly had the opportunity / was forced to actually LOOK at the things around me and remember them in my build-in camera (my brain) and it was fantastic...

Well, enough about me - on to the stuff you came for:

Since I am not able to give you the Bornholm freebies I had planned I bring you a little more Halloween. A paper pack with 7 papers and a small addition of 3 "Happy Halloween" word art. I hope you will find use for it all.

A few days ago I started making a little Halloween element pack for you but as usual I got sucked into one of the details - a border brush by Diana - and suddenly found myself unable to stop! So instead of a small element pack I ended up with a pack of Pumpkin Borders - and not just any pack...

... 110 pumpkin borders!

I guarantee you will never ever be short of a pumpkin border again for the rest of your natural living life. I have even included a border of "fire" that you can place behind the borders to light the lantern.

As you can imagine a pack like this takes up a lot of MBs so I have separated it into 6 parts. Be sure to get them all.

But of you have the band width and the patience for it you can take it all in one download but be warned: It's close to 200 MB!!!!!

First taste of Halloween

Hi all,

This weekend something odd happened....

Copenhagen finally got the summer we never had with temperatures around 20 C, sun and clear blue skies. It was wonderful so Sunday I went on a photo-walk around our local cemetery to capture the "Autumn Summer" (according to the official rules we are not allowed to call it Indian Summer). While walking around and collecting chestnuts I suddenly felt Halloween-ish - It was, however, a cemetery. So I went home to start working on some dark, spooky items from some of the pictures I took.

You will get some of them soon but today I will start out with something more autumn than spooky: 2 background papers. They can be used for both autumn and Halloween - your choice.

My, have I been busy....

I have made loads of new products for my store at Scrap It Sassy and more are pending for release over the next couple of weeks. I will get back to you about that in a day or two (with a free sampler) but you are more than welcome to stop by the store to take a peek.

I guess most of you know this saying referring to the Trojan Horse Episode. But yesterday I found out that the saying is not always true…

By (a lucky) accident, I stumbled upon the blog 1000+1 Free Graphics by Lefkoi Lykoi – and the name is telling the truth. Loads and loads - and loads – of extraordinary free stuff: Frames, styles, patterns, brushes, papers, jewelry and I could go on. Everything is of a very high quality! The only downside (for a designer like me) is that everything is PU, but I think it’s something I can live with and see it as a sign for me to scrap more than I have lately.

I HIGHLY recommend that you visit Lefkoi but set of plenty of time for it – you will be amazed.

I personally downloaded over 6 GB on my first visit and am deeply thankful. Therefore, I hereby give this award to Lefkoi and her blog and keep an eye on my “blogs I follow” for her next product.

Not THAT busted...

You might have noticed one of the comments to my last post about me being "busted". Well, Anonynous, I'm not THAT busted. I did, however, make to bads:

I forgot to put the Credits in the zip file.
I mis-took the font for being free to use.

Now I'm wiser and want to let you know that Anonymous is absolutely right - The font I used for the "Versatile Alpha" IS made with Juan Casco's font "Sucker" and I had no intention to hide that or make it seem as if I had done it all (I'm not THAT good ;o))

When I got the font I downloaded it from DeviantArt and could not find any mention of TOU for the font, but as soon as I found out it was actually for Personal Use Only, I immediately contacted Juan to apologize and he gave me permission to let the alpha stay on the blog for anyone to download.

Furthermore, I will make him an appropriate donation and put up the "Credits" with the download link as soon as possible. So Thank You to Anonymous for making me aware of my mistakes - and an even bigger Thank You to Juan for letting me keep the alpha online.

One Alpha – Many Uses

Buttons Up!

I still have so much to tell you all but since my apperances here is so rare I will not wast your time with details and just give you the short version:

My training went great (I really like to teach) so I take another 4 weeks starting on Monday :o)

I invested in two new computers and upgrated my PSE to 9.0 :o)

When moving all my stuff from the old computer to the new one I placed it all on a (new) external hard drive … and then it broke down… and I lost EVERYTHING!!!! :o(((

Before you start yelling BACK UP: I had most of it backed up – but as zip files!!! So far I have spend 2 weeks un-zipping and have only finished about a quater of the files :o0

All this mess means that I haven’t got much to work with when making you freebies so you have to be patience for all the good stuff to return.

Good News #1: I have received another award!

Becky from Becky’s Creations thinks my blog rocks - how happy am I? Very Happy! As always I am deeply grateful for the compliment and a little humble as it comes from a designer with a great talent. Thanks A LOT Becky :ox

I will of course pay this award forward to 5 blogs I find “rocking”, but please have patience. As you will find out in a line or two I am very hung up at the moment.

Good News #2: I got a job!!!!!!
As of yesterday I am working again. It is “only” as a trainee, only for 4 weeks and it is unpaid, but after almost 3 years without a steady job it’s a start - and it’s great.

Bad(-ish) News:
Me working full time (+ freelance on the side) leaves me very little time for designing and that leaves you with very little freebies for the next 4 weeks. However, I will not leave you completely. A small freebie once in a while should be possible.

I hope you can share my happiness in spite of the consequences and that you will stay with me here on NbF.

Steampunk Alpha #02

This follow up on yesterday’s Steampunk Alpha is made especially for “Anonymous” who needed the alpha without shadows for cutting. I did not have the time to remove the shadows manually so I found another rusty metal style and made a brand new alpha from it. The style is the only thing different from yesterday’s version. More Steam than Punk…

Long time no see! But here I am again - I’ve just been busy out in the real world.

Since my last post I have gone into a serious Steampunk mode. I just LOVE it. And at the moment I am working on something for my store. But as usual you get to be my lab rats and test some of my creations. Today I bring you a mini-kit called “More Steam than Punk”. It contains 4 papers and 11 elements, all in full size.

I would really appreciate if you could take the time and drop me a comment about what you think of it - both good and bad - so I know where to go from here.

What a Friday 13th! - Did it really have to last from Thursday to Monday?

Thursday the big Blogger-mess took place as I guess you all know by know. Friday my PSE came up with those 5 little words anybody working with it dreads: “Your Scrap Disk is full”, so I used all day cleaning out my C-drive and moving stuff around. Saturday my head felt much better and Blogger started to act normal (still a few comments missing) so I started to see the light at the end of the tunnel. But NEVER do that! Sunday my laptop was hit by a nasty virus and lost it’s will to live. I have now handed it over to the pros and am still waiting for the final diagnosis - dead or saveable? Please cross your fingers with me.

But the weekend had some light moments - all the sweet comments and emails from you with your “get well soon”-greetings. Thank you so much for those!

I have moved to my other computer and have made you a little freebie for today. 4 old signs - wooden and rusty - with a bonus of 5 decorated examples. Have fun with them.

I’m Sick!

My sinuses have conspired in a devious plan to make my head explode. So to give you something today I have had to dip into my Sand Box (= where I play and test) to find something good enough to give away. I found something, but whether it’s good enough I don’t know - you be the judge. I’m not proud of it but can only say that this is what I have managed - and only with help from a lot of medicine…

I have packed you some frames and some small decoration elements for you to “finish the frames” - or use for something else.

DIY Alpha

I have made you a DIY alpha = a stamped stencil alpha in greyscale for you to re-colour, use as overlays or with your layer styles. If you alter it you can use it as CU but in original GS form it’s PU only. The stamped effect is made with "Acrylic Stamp Action" by (who other than) Atomic Cupcake.

Award Tribute - Atomic Cupcake

POWWW!

That is the sound of my head exploding.

Explanation: I had planned to finish the last Award Tribute on Saturday but Easter got in the way. I spend all weekend relaxing, eating Easter lunch and lots of cakes and ice cream, taking long walks in the summer sun and the rest of the time I did absolutely nothing! But when Monday arrived I knew I had to finish the tribute and started slow - how hard could it be. Atomic Cupcake is all about Actions and everybody knows that actions save time… Well that may be, but I have so many of them and one thing let to another and I just kept on making more and more freebies. Late last night I finished freebie #7 and then forced myself away from the computer. But making the freebies is not all… I have spent 6 hours today making previews, credits and uploading all the freebies. But now I can finally say: “I’m done and ready to post”. So let’s do it.

This fourth and final Award Tribute goes to Atomic Cupcake who has filled my PSE with close to a hundred great actions that I use practically every day (well, not all of them every day of course). The cute princess on tip-toes is named Isabella (Henrietta Ingrid Margrethe) and her big brother is Prince Christian (Valdemar Henri John).

The somewhat peculiar names for the twins - Minik and Ivola - are Greenlandic.

No more “A Little Bit Friday”

I have decided to end the concept “A Little Bit Friday”. Not that you won’t get anything on Fridays anymore… It’s just that “A Little Bit Friday” is hardly ever just a little bit so in a way it’s false advertising calling it that. From now on Fridays will simply be ordinary freebies - a little or a lot.

And today I’ll start by giving you “The Year of a Tree Kit”. It contains all the seasons a tree goes through in the form of: 6 finished trees in png, 5 pngs with leaves only and 1 layered psd where you can play around with the different leaf layers. SPRING or summer???

This weekend my fair city was blessed with summer-like temperatures and lots of sun. It’s almost as if we skipped spring and went directly to summer. It inspired me to make some simple and versatile papers with the feeling of warmer times. They also go great with the upcoming Easter. You get 6 wrinkled papers with chalked edges and 6 with glittered edges, all full size and CU.

A Calm Spring

I have been playing around with colours this weekend and came to the conclusion that at the moment I have a soft spot for the blue/green/turquoise-ish colour as on weathered copper (verdigris?). What a mess!

If you have ever had small children helping you in the kitchen you know that it can get messy. They try their best but somehow that is not enough to make it right. But does that really matter? NO! They have to learn by doing and if that means failing the first few (or many) times, that’s OK. One day they will get it right and the feelings of pride and accomplishment that brings is priceless.

…Denmark! And you know what? That is BIG - HUGE! We don’t care what the title is or who the director is. We just heard that DENMARK won an Oscar. And for a country of only 5.5 million people that is what we would call “quite good going”.

And if you want the details the film is called “In a better world” (“Hævnen” in Danish), is directed by Susanne Bier (photos) and the category was “Best Foreign Language Film”.

At the same time the Englishmen took over the night with “The King’s Speech” which pleased me enormously. No offense, but in my opinion the British are so much better at making interesting movies than the Americans.

To celebrate the big event I went digging in my archives and found a few papers related to Oscar, film and Photography. I hope you can use them for something remarkable in your own life.

How wrong can one be?

I’m not sure if my senses played a trick on me or if this is just the way it is. This morning I woke up to - TA-DA - snow! Yes, that white stuff that comes out of the sky when the temperature is below zero… So much for spring.

But the weather people on TV assure us that it is just a day fluke. As of tomorrow pre-spring should be back. So I cross my fingers and hope that they, for once, get it right.

But no kind of fluke weather can stop me from delivering your freebie and today you get a very nice turquoise alpha with everything included.

Is that spring I’m sensing…?

It’s Monday and I’m in a good mood. That is a combination that does not happen often. But yesterday something changed. The sun was shining from a clear blue sky and although the temperature outside was below zero you could feel the warmth from the sun. And sitting in my kitchen I could hear the birds singing beautifully all day. I think it’s a sign of spring just around the corner…

And that is how I got inspired for today’s freebie. A cluster frame with spring promises.

A Little Bit Sampler

Before I get to today’s freebie I just want to finish off the password issue from earlier this week.

I have spoken to 4shared and (we think) we have found the problem. I have used the last few days to go through all my files and hope to have cleared any passwords that were there. But there may be some left so:

If you try to download one of my files and are asked to enter a password try typing “free4u” (without the quotes).

If that is not accepted please leave a comment or - even better - send me an email to let me know which file it is. I will then get the password removed.

Well, on to a more interesting issue - FREEBIE. I have changed today’s Little Bit Friday to a free sampler of my latest kit on Scrap it Sassy. The kit - Good Morning Kit - contains just about everything you need for a digital breakfast:

As some of you may have noticed 4shared asks for a password when you try to download my files. I have NO idea why… I have not added passwords to any of my freebies and I have found out that it is only some of you who experience the problem. Therefore, I have contacted 4shared support to get it fixed but experience tells me that may take a while.

Until I find a solution (or another site to store my files) I want you to contact me by email if you are trying to download one of my files but are asked for a password. Tell me the name of the file or post and I will try to get it to you in another way.

I am very sorry for all the bother and promise to let you know when/if the problem gets solved.

PS - If any of you can recommend another storage site (it doesn’t have to be free) I will be happy to hear from you.

Make a Heart

I hope you all had a great weekend… and for all of you Super Bowl Fans: hope you cheered for the right team! For me I didn’t have “a tema” so I honestly didn’t watch for any other reason than hearing Aguilera sing the National Anthem - and that was worth staying up late for (forgotten lyrics or not)! The game doesn’t start until 1 am here in Denmark but for some reason I stayed awake for the first 3 quarters. Don’t ask me why. But I must say I was a bit disappointed: No one served me pizza or Buffalo wings, not even a small tub of popcorn..! Where did I go wrong?

Well, after sleeping most of the day I am now ready to offer you today’s part of my Valentine’s Series, and it includes a little D.I.Y. You get 7 hearts and 7 scribble frames for you to mix and match as you please or use separately, if that’s what you like.

What a Weekend….!

I want to star by thanking Anonymous who had discovered my designs in other places under a different author’s name. Thank you so much - whoever you are. I have been absolutely burning with anger all weekend. Not because of Anonymous “The Informer” (to her I am eternally grateful), but because of Anonymous “The Thief(s)”. Can you explain to me what they get from stealing other people’s designs, repack them (without my TOU of course) and upload as their own? They didn’t even bother to make their own preview…

The only positive things I have to say about people like that is that they are kind enough not to sell my designs and making money on my freebies (as far as know!) and they have really good taste in design…

So if you by any chance are one of the culprits back here for more - STOP IT! Try making your own designs. When you find out how much time (and money) it takes you might think twice before stealing from others.

Here I am again - apologizing!

I promised you a weekend freebie but did not keep my promise - I’m Sorry…

But Sunday I had the family over for pancakes (or crêpes to be correct) and bingo, and that, as you can imagine, took priority ;o) And today has been busy as well. But here I am and so is your freebie. I have made you a very lovely Valentine QP but also added some png love letters for you to use in your own Valentine LOs. For those interested I can reveal that the poem used is written by a very famous Danish poet and author - myself (again I apologize ;o))

Valentine Alpha 1

I have skipped A Little Bit Friday this week as I think it’s time for a Valentine Alpha - and that does not fall into the category “a little bit”…

And as the number in the name suggests, it may not be the last before Valentine’s Day.

This one is a very decorative alpha that can be changed into an endless number of alphas with a very small amount of work from you. The basic alpha has a transparent centre and I have added alpha sheets in all 7 Valentine colours for you to use as background to fill the centres. Or you can fill it with a colour of your choice. The sheet alphas can also be used as stand-alone alphas or as mix-and-match… as I said, endless opportunities.

In only one month it’s Valentine’s Day. Out with the red, green and gold of Christmas and the glitter of New Year’s and in with the PINK! - Oh, we are in a busy business…

I have decided to use the same colour chart for all my Valentine’s designs this year so everything will go together. The chart is made by The Urban Fairy.

First up is a CU pack of bowstrings that can be used for all seasons.They are made with one of the fab bowstringer actions by Marbled Circle.

Cabinets - and the TOUs from hell…

Hi all,

Plans are made to be changed - or something like that. My plan for today’s freebie was much different than the actual result.

The other day Scrappin’ Cop had the greatest cabinet template as her freebie and I have played around with it ever since. And today you get one of the many results from my “play date”: A wood cabinet, cabin style, one empty and one filled with lovely things representing travels (not my personal travels but still…). My plan was that along with the two cabinets you would get all the things from the filled one as separate png elements so you could make your own cabinet. But then the TOUs from hell spoiled it all…!

Maybe some of you who also design or maybe one with a law degree can explain this to me:

I go to one of the many stores online and buy a CU Mix with lovely things in it. When I get it unzipped and read the TOU it says something like “.. my items can be passed forward only as altered designs..”. Hmmm, I totally get that when it comes to overlays, papers, templates and other “designer resources”, but elements…? For example - take the old camera in today’s cabinet. How in the world am I supposed to alter that..? Colour it pink, make it triangular or maybe turn it into a brand new Sony camera?

And then there is the other one: “.. my CU products can NOT be used as freebies”. WHAT??? OK, so I can make money from your product, but give it away for free, NOOOOO. I just don’t get it!

"Oh, but please give credit to me no matter how you use my products". That somehow always OK, and something they can all agree on!

Anyway, that is the reason why you have to take today’s freebie without the separate elements - I’m simply not allowed to give them to you. I hope you can still find some use for it.

I apologize for starting the year so late here on the blog but New Year’s Eve brought me not only a new year but also a touch of fever with a side order of coughing and runny nose. So the past days I have not felt up to posting.

I can’t believe it’s been a year already - and I can’t believe it’s only been a year… You all made my many hours spend by the computer worth while. I can say without hesitation that I now have good friends all over the world.
